Launch event for Unlawful Orders at the 57th Street Books, 1301 E 57th street in Chicago Illinois. The author of Unlawful Orders, a nonfiction middle grade historical biography of Dr. James Buchanan Williams that covers the 20th century battle for equal rights in society and the medical profession.
Barbara Binns, a Chicago native and graduae of what was then known as Hyde Park High School, is a retired computer scientist and the author of Unlawful Orders, along with several fiction books for young people, including Courage, Being God, and Pull. She will discuss the book in conversation with:
Lisa Sukenic, a poet, author, and teacher at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools whose short stories and poetry appear in numerous anthologies. Her historical middle grade novel in verse, Miles from Motown, was named a 2022 Michigan Notable Book by the Library of Michigan.
Linda Weide a retired teacher with an undergraduate degree in History focusing on Black and Immigrant Chicago history, and a graduate degree in Elementary Education with a focus on multicultural and multilingual education
