October 13, 2023, is a magical day for Illinois teachers, students and school librarians. The Illinois chapter of the SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) is sponsering its 3rd annual ReadAloudIllinois day. Schools have the opportunity for free 20 minutes author visits for students. The majority of authors granting these free visits wirte picture books, and books for pre-K to third grade. This year, the list of authors available for a visit includes several authors of books for Middle Grade and Young Adult readers. This includes me!
If you select me for your visit, you can chose from either my fiction story, Courage, or the recent non-fiction historical biography, Unlawful Orders. I will read, discuss and answer student questions.
The names of participating authors and their contact information are available on a list you will find at https://onedrive.live.com/edit.aspx?resid=816FAA93C2DC61EF!39485&ithint=file%2cdocx&wdo=2&authkey=!AJgbFSe8-Nl9Yx8
Special note – every school that sets up a virtual visit with one or more authors will automatically be entered in a drawing for a free in-person visit from the author they choose. So check out the list, or contact me. If for some reason October 13 will not work for your school, let the author know. It may be possible to arrange an individual date for you.
